Mediocre does not attract attention‚ it definitely does not attract good attention. If you have a business‚ you should be all about attracting attention‚ getting your message out there‚ telling what you do‚ why you do it and why it’s so important to you and your clients.
Mediocre does not stand out in a busy marketplace and if you are not standing out you are not getting new and amazing clients.
If you have no new and amazing clients your business suffers. How you do your business suffers when you are only attracting clients that are sold on mediocrity. Those kind of clients don’t expect a lot and therefore you don’t give your best. Doing this kind of work every day sucks the inspiration out of you. You don’t have the excitement of working with clients you love‚ clients that challenge you to be your best and grow as a professional. If you are driven and truly care about what you can do for your clients‚ mediocrity in any form is not the answer.
I must say be careful mediocrity sometimes looks good on the outside. So good that you May get fooled into thinking it will be ok. It May seem to work at first but people are smart‚ after the initial‚ “this looks good” they look for substance‚ the information that tells them this is the business that can solve my problem and makes them want to know more‚ mediocre does not do substance well.
Mediocrity and Websites
Let’s talk mediocre websites‚ websites that look good but don’t have the message and the information that get someone to take action‚ to learn more‚ contact you and hire you. There are a lot of websites on the internet that do little more than look good.
On the flip side‚ there are websites that don’t look so good but have the information‚ the content that people are searching for. These sites May look mediocre but they are not mediocre because their content gets results. This should be telling you that the main point of any website site is to answer the question‚ “can you help me solve my problem?” and “are you the person I want to work with to solve my problem?”.
“Would you hire someone who is mediocre?“
I recently heard that question in a podcast from Karen Yankovich and immediately thought of web designers and developers that follow what I call a standard format‚ sites that often look good but don’t contain the information that sells you and your service.
Most web designer/developers are more concerned with the technical side‚ they look to you for the content‚ the information that attracts clients. These web designers and developers can usually do a good job when you supply the right content. But getting the content right is the hard part.
It’s work to define the information that attracts the people you want to work with in your business. Work that is hard to do on your own.
It takes time and effort to not be mediocre. Often people don’t feel they have the time to spend on getting the copy right for their website. After all‚ they are busy at working in and on their businesses. What they are forgetting is the value of a website when done correctly.
Your website is available every day‚ all day and all night for potential clients to see. What are those potential clients seeing about you and your business? Think of it as if you were meeting the visitors to your site in person. You’d want to make the best first impression you can‚ right? When someone goes to your site the impression they get needs to be great‚ they should see a site that is well laid out and easy to follow so nothing gets in the way of them immediately knowing that you understand their problem and that you can solve that problem. After all‚ the answer to their problem is why they have taken the time to open your website.
Your site should be making a great first impression‚ anything else is mediocre.
The most important part of your website is what it has to say about you‚ your business and what you can do for them. It’s also the hardest part of a website to create. You must put the work into getting your content right‚ what you do‚ why you do it and who you do it for. Statistics say that most people check the web before buying‚ especially if what they are buying is a higher ticket item‚ like hiring a coach or an attorney. If your website does not tell them what they need to know you have made a bad impression no matter how good it looks. It’s very hard to change a bad impression and with so many others doing the same the same type of work people just move on.
If you are thinking about a new site for your business remember that a mediocre website is not going to get great results no matter how good it looks. You have to do the work to get the content right to attract your ideal client.
