You’re told your business needs a website to establish an online presence. By definition…
“An online presence is any existence of an individual or business that can be found via an online search.”
This May be all you need if your business is very well known‚ people already know they want to do business with you and are confirming or gathering more information on your product or service. But if your business is like most small businesses in the market today you know that getting found in an online search is not as easy as putting up a website. For your business to be found in a search your website needs to contain the information that people are looking for. If the information in your website is generic‚ you are going to be grouped with all the other businesses who offer the same generic information. For example‚ if you are a life coach and your website’s home page opens with a generic statement about your being a life coach and the rest of your site is full of generic information about what you do as a life coach your search will be lumped in with all the other life coaches who’s site’s are also full of generic information. Which means getting someone to click on your site is just a matter of luck. Here’s what Google says about luck…
“success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.”
Why do so many leave it to chance? I’ve been a web designer for well over 10 years now and the two questions I hear the most are‚ “what do I need to put onto my website?” and “how do I get ranked #1 in search results?”. The answer is actually the same‚ CONTENT‚ you need to tell why you do what you do‚ what problem your business or service solves and how YOU do it better/different than your competition. You need to make it personal so that people know why they want to hire you over the many others in your field. When you do this an amazing thing happens you start attracting the clients that need you and you pop up higher in search results. As for getting to #1‚ there are hundreds of ranking factors to get to #1 but a major factor is content.
Getting this content right is the most important thing you can do for your business. With the right content you are telling those that need your service that you are the right person to help them solve their problem. That is what they are searching for. That is how they find you! For me helping someone to create a website that captures their essence online is important and what I do best. I’ve spent years making good looking sites (I started my career as a graphic designer) without the content essential to reach the clients that need them. It was frustrating‚ to say the least especially when the clients were asking how to rank #1 in search results.
These days I work one to one with clients who are in the business of serving their clients by giving their best. By asking the right questions we get down to what’s important in their businesses‚ the information that when seen by those that need you makes them say “this is the person/business I need to work with”.
If you would like to learn more about how to Capture Your Essence Online™‚ please schedule a discovery call I would love to talk to you about how to more than rank higher but to get the clients you want‚ who need you.
