Who are your best clients and what do they say about your service? What do they praise‚ what keeps them coming back and referring you to others? These are the questions I ask my clients when we are working on their website. The answer to these questions answers many questions for your website and your business.
When you look at your best clients do you see the people you like to work with? Are you doing the work that brings you the most satisfaction? Do you feel that you are really helping those clients with your service? If you are answering yes to these questions then you know who your ideal client is and you know what your niche is. Many of my clients start out with the standard “I can work with just about everybody” but when we look at what their clients now get the most value from in their service they start to see that those are the clients that they should be talking/marketing to. The combination of who you serve‚ what you offer and the way only you can provide it‚ is what makes you different from all the other businesses offering the similar services.
Knowing these three things‚ who is your best client‚ what you offer and the way you provide that service is the start of a great website. With this information‚ you can craft that opening message that grabs the attention of those that need what you offer. Getting this message right is essential but when you know the who the what and the how it’s not so hard. When you look at what your best clients say about your service you find the words that resonate with others that are looking for you and want to join that list of your best clients. I make my clients think about this and look back to what they have been told. I ask the questions that get them remembering the feelings they had when their best clients were telling them this. I am not surprised when my clients don’t think of this. I know for me and many others in business we start out thinking the more services we offer‚ the more people we can work with the better our chances are at succeeding. No matter how many times we have heard that we need to specialize‚ make a niche for ourselves‚ only work with our ideal clients it’s hard to believe that by doing that we are not leaving a lot of money on the table. Looking back we know there were services that we offered that were a chore for us‚ they didn’t flow and we had a hard time making the client really happy. But when we look to the services we offered that make our best clients sing our praises we are most likely looking at the clients you like working with‚ ones who listened to your suggestions and didn’t fight you on everything. It is amazing the results you get when you don’t have to fight your way through a project. So when you are looking at the site you have now consider those best/ideal clients‚ what they have said to you and what you should be saying to others just like them. There are plenty of clients who need what you have to offer‚ but they must be able to state clearly what you offer‚ who you offer it to and how what you are offering will make the difference they are looking for. Then you must tell about it clearly with great content and a look that keeps their attention to keep them on your site to read it.
If you don’t tell them they can’t find you.
